Blog # 9 New fashion show formats

New fashion formats on the runway

Beth Ditto Versus

My blog this week is about new fashion show formats.   Designers are teaming up with bands and singers to perform at their runway shows.  Designers like Versus, Rebbecca Minkoff, Karl Lagerfeld, and Nanette Lepore.

Beth Ditto made quite a performance on the runway of Versus.  "Beth Ditto’s performance at Versus flashed on a wall behind the models’ runway entrance while the band played on the sidelines,"  as stated in the WWD.  Joining forces is a great technique of attracting customers by giving the customers a musical and runway performance all in one show.  Adding the view of the performance for the backwall while having the artist perform brings attention to the models as they enter the runway.

Teaming Betsey with Cyndi was a great match.  Check out this attachment of the Cyndi Lauper performance at the Betsey Johnson show.

Performances of Cyndi Lauper at Betsey Johnson show and DJ Cassidy at the Rebbecca Minkoff show.
Great new fashion formats for these designers.

Project 2- H&M Brand

This is a video of my project # 2 on the retail brand H&M.  Check it out.

Blog # 8 Mango Fall 2012 - 2013 Lookbook Collection

This hip and trendy brand lookbook looks simple and fabulous.  The bordeau dress mixed with that cool shade of purple, so trendy yet professional.  The accessories are also a great addition to the look.  The leather pants, the sweaters, the dresses all works well for the young fashion conscious professional.  Accessorizing is the key element to completing a look.  The bags, hats, boots and belts add a great touch to complete the look for that hip and trendy Mango customer.
I love the simplicity of the entire lookbook.  The way they repeat the pictures, is a good idea to catch the customers eye, so they will sure to give any look a second eye. The red on red tone of garment that they added, the turtleneck with that red coat makes the whole look just fabulous.  Their choice of music is soothing for the Mango customers to relax to while putting items on their list of must have.
This entire lookbook just gives me ideas on what to do for my own lookbook I will be putting together for my Spring 2013 season.  Just love it!

Blog # 7 STREET TRUNK SHOW

I came across this cool trunk show done in China, I think.  It was featured on the streets , which I thought was a great idea to bring the show to the public.  The collection was trendy and colorful with a lot of basics.  They had a great technique of looking like they are just strolling down the street.  Their colors of mustard bag, clutches, printed shirts, skirts and cool looking pants makes the whole look just fabulous and ridiculously cool.
Their technique of the models looking like everyday people going to work or shopping  blended in perfectly with the rest of the crowd.  The ready to wear collection looks trendy and  goes well with that kind of a trunk show.   I think that was a fabulous idea and I am actually thinking about doing one for my business, but the best place to have a trunk show like that would be in New York City.

Blog #6 - Runway show of CAROLINA HERRERA FULL COLLECTION - MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK SPRING 201...

After watching numerous videos on Youtube, this one of Carolina Herrera caught my full attention.  The music, the hair style, the outfits and the atmosphere is just soothing and welcoming.  The scroll detail on the backwall of the stage with the white platform works well with her collection.  I love the textiles used, the colors, the shoes and the cohesiveness of the entire collection.
Herrara's use of white, black flowing silk and sheer textiles is tremendous.  Printed silk, sheer fabrics flows nicely on the shirts and widely flowing skirts.  The black and white scroll detail on the wiastline of the dresses and the beautifully constructed red asymetrical gown makes her collection complete.  Gowns of sunshine yellow, bright orange and white, with black printed scroll detail, blends together nicely.
Herrara's collection was well thought and the entire crew of makeup artist, stylist, technician, and director did a marvelous job.

Blog # 5 - store window/ merchandising

As I stroll down Elm Street in New Caanan, Connecticut where I work, I looked into store windows and no other than this one store grab my attention.  Their attention to detail and trend for the Fall season is right on target.  It was Walin and Wolff, a new luxury store that sells shoe and accessory that just opened in May of this year. They had shoes that any woman would love to have this Fall season. Boots were suede and leather from LK Bennett, Stuart Weisman, Aquatalia and Frye just to name a few.  The black booties from Aquatalia were so cool I wish I could have one.  Bordeau, nude and black pumps from LK Bennett were displayed in the window and rainboots from Hunter were nicely displayed in the back window of the store.   LK Bennett, style Lulu shoes in nude and black suede were nicely displayed on a fixture in the window. To top off the season they had decals of Fall leaves in a L shape across one corner. of the store window.  As you can see from the pictures it was a view I just could not pass.

As I entered the store the shoes were all displayed on fixtures along the right side of the store and arm chairs and benches were in the center for the customers to sit in.  The chairs were of leather and beautifully upholstered in blue print.  Bags of suede and leather lined off at the the top of the shelves. Jewelry from Alexis Bittar, patented totes from LK Bennett and clutches from DVF were georgeous.  This store had all the trendy accessories for this Fall season.

As you can see from this beautifully merchandised Aquatalia table, with their unique weatherproof shoes that was made in Italy, they are to die for.

Here is a link to the store's website.

"Jean Paul Gaultier’s show tonight was an absolute hoot," Eric Wilson stated in the blog on New York Times.Jean Paul Gaultier paid tribute to pop stars from the 1980s.  "Models were dressed to look like different artist from the 1980s, so hilariously accurate," says Eric.  Model Lindsey Wixson was dressed in colored- denim sequins, Jessica Stam was dressed like Madonna and Joan Smalls in a tight lace black dress. It was a fun, time capsule moment.

Blog #3

The A-line dress is a trend that will never go out of style.  As I was walking down the streets of New York, I noticed a A-line dress.  It was so fascinating, I thought it was a two piece outfit.  It is black and white two-piece attached at the waist with a zipper closure in the back.  Simple but still stylish, made from two different texture of fabrics.

A-line dress is taking New York by storm, from street to street.
Looking in the stores, there are various stores that sells A-line dresses.  Stores like JCrew, Banana Republic and Zara.

The trend for Fall 2013

I have predicted that the trend for Fall 2013 is the A-Line shift dress.  This silhouette of dress is adopted by designers like Victoria Beckham, Tracey Reese, Ruffian, and Christian Siriano. The A-Line dress is a silhouette that is classic and will nevwer go out of style.

As featured in the New York Times for the Fall 2012 collections.

Check out this shift dress from the Christian Siriano collection for Fall 2012, with the color, shape and style it entails.

Blogs I love

My number one favorite blog is the Tory Burch Blog.  I love how she mixes inspirations with news and what's new for Tory Burch.  She talks about the interns and how important they are in the business world.  CEO's of  businesses have learned from interns about the new trends, what the new generations of today likes to do and wear.  First hand information is very helpful for the business world.
She tells us what her inspiration for her Fall collection came from.  She calls it Inspiration: Deep Green, which was posted Monday, August 27, 2012.  The lust green trees, and plants in the garden.  They are all placed in a collage, truly inspiring.

The Saratorialist.com is a great blog that talks about what people is wearing in the streets in Paris, Florence and New York.  It show's us how colors can be mixed, like the purple, green and yellow combination that took place in Florence.  I love the pop of yellow that she wore in her shoes.
